The "Six Flags of Texas" is more than just an amusement park. The Texas State Flag has an interesting history.

The Six Flags of Texas refers to the six different flags that have flown over Texas, beginning in 1519.

Do you know the pledge to the Texas state flag? In 2003 a new state law was passed requiring school children to recite the pledge to the Texas state flag:
"Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible."

Update: The Texas State pledge has changed. During the past 80th session, House and Senate lawmakers approved of adding two words: under God. Governor Rick Perry signed the bill into law on June 15, 2007 and the law became effective immediately. The new pledge is now:
"Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible."

TEXAS FACT: The Texas state flag is the only US State flag that was once the flag of an independent country - the Republic of Texas. Looking at the timeline above, can you determine what years the Republic of Texas was in charge?
